During Styles’ party on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York, Styles joked that he “moved very quickly to Venice to spit on” Pine, a rumor that began after video footage of the actors entering the premiere went viral.

“This is our 10th show at Madison Square Garden. It’s so, so, so cool to be back in New York. I moved so quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine,” Styles joked. “But don’t worry, we’re back!”
In the days after the “#SpitGate” controversy first began, Pine’s representatives have referred to the rumors as a “complete fabrication.”
“This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of an outlandish internet delusion that is clearly deceptive and allows for foolish speculation,” a representative for Payne said in a statement on Tuesday. “To be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create a drama that simply doesn’t exist.”

These latter rumors were fueled by the announcement that Pugh would not be lobbying for the film outside of the Venice premiere.
